After all, what they want is for you to subscribe to the service - that's what they make money on - so they almost certainly don't care which device you use so long as you subscribe. I tend to doubt that DIRECTV really cares whether you use their device or not - it isn't like they make much (if any) money on it, and they continue to support all the other platforms. It's just that they already ran on Android TV, and that is what the new Google device uses. None of the other "big players" were ready specifically for the new Google device.
